Tom BenderTendril NetworksIntroduction to Wireless Sensor and Control NetworksThis session introduces wireless sensor and control networks and the components for building applications in these heterogeneous and distributed environments. The session explores low data rate, low power network computing with IEEE 802.15.4, application development with Java Micro Edition (Java ME) and examines some of the subtleties of building solutions in the world of machine-to-machine (M2M) computing. Small footprint tools and environments including Berkeley's TinyOS, Sun's SPOT and other commercial tools that simplify development, test and deployment will be reviewed. The session concludes with a demonstration, showing access and control of a wireless network of devices from a Java application. Web to Edge: Enterprise Integration with Wireless Sensor and Control NetworksWeb to Edge explores enterprise integration with wireless sensor and control networks using lightweight, event-based architectures. We review JSR 208, Java Business Integration (JBI) and specifically the details surrounding the creation of a custom JBI Binding Component, providing connectivity and transactional processing between wireless devices and the enterprise. Using both REST and Web Service interfaces, we conclude with a demonstration of a Building Automation application running IBM's J9 JVM, Tridium's JSR 60 compliant Baja environment and Tendril Network's Java-based Service Broker on an embedded, QNX RTOS device.
